Rent, buy or sell

The marketplace for swing mooring sales and rental in Northland

Buying or Selling a Mooring

We offer a web-based marketplace to help you sell/buy/lease your swing mooring. Please be sure to review your obligations about moorings before buying, renting and leasing.

Important Information for buying, selling and renting moorings

If you are thinking of buying or renting an existing mooring, make sure that the mooring:

  • Has a current Certificate of Inspection
  • Has adequate swing room for your vessel
  • That the mooring makeup is suitable for the size of your vessel

The Northland Regional Council (NRC) has established minimum mooring design, boat and mooring licence length restrictions:

  • 1 tonne mooring system is suitable for vessels up to 7m (23ft)
  • 2 tonne mooring system is suitable for vessels between 7m and 12m (40ft)
  • 4 tonne system is suitable for vessels between 12m and 18m (60ft)

Each mooring will have a maximum Licence Length.  Any boat must be on a suitably designed mooring, and must not exceed the mooring’s permitted Licence Length.  There are various “blocks/anchor” weights in use, also, other mooring components are important for the effectiveness of moorings, so, if in doubt, check it out.

If selling a mooring a Sale Transfer Form can be obtained from NRC and must be completed by both owner and purchaser.  A fee is payable on submitting the form to NRC.

If renting your mooring you must advise NRC of details for the vessel and owner using the mooring.

Mooring owners must ensure that the mooring has a current Certificate of Inspection to qualify for sale or rent. If you need a certificate please call Moorings Northland 09 402 6939 or book an inspection.

Following the sale/renting of a mooring, the onus is on the (original) owner of the mooring to advise Moorings Northland so that the listing can be removed.
