Moorings Northland can work with you to configure a design using NRC mooring design guidelines, select a site and develop a swing room plan. We will discuss buoy options, costs, timelines, and associated risks. The approval process includes applications to the Harbour Master and if required the NRC planning team. Once complete we can install the mooring, provide certification, and assist with future inspections and servicing.
There are a wide range of buoy systems to choose from. If your vessel changes, or your current buoy system does not meet your needs or is difficult to use, contact Moorings Northland to discuss a solution.
Every mooring license prescribes a maximum permissible vessel length. Any increases to the licence length for a mooring must be approved by the Harbour Master.
Approval depends on: the reason for the change, the mooring and vessel design, depth, location, and available swing room.
To secure approval a Harbour Master’s Application must be prepared. Moorings Northland can manage this application and approval process on your behalf.
Moorings can be repositioned to reduce swing room overlaps, accommodate changes to licence lengths or mooring field layouts. Any relocations must be approved by the Harbour Master, and a formal application is required.
Our mapping systems are used to analyse the new site, carefully assess any swing overlaps and judge overall suitability. We can then recommend solutions for your consideration, and submit an application to the Harbour Master.
Prices to relocate a mooring vary, depending on the location, timing and distance.
Accidents do happen, and moorings can sink. Most often a passing boat’s prop has cut the buoy line, or struck the buoy itself. Moorings Northland work with reputable divers to recover your mooring so we can reinstate the system.
Prices vary according to mooring location and degree of work required.
If your mooring is subject to a resource consent, it will have an expiry date. The NRC will contact you in advance of the expiry date to allow time for the renewal process. The renewal follows the consent process outlined above for a new mooring, but without the need for a Harbour Master Application. We can renew your consent on your behalf, or provide advice.
Moorings Northland offer Pre-Purchase reports providing detailed information on mooring certification status, conformity to NRC guidelines, location maps with swing overlaps, servicing due dates and estimated costs.
If you no longer want your mooring, or have cancelled your mooring license and need it removed please contact us for pricing. The removal would occur when we are next in your area, and we will confirm with you and NRC when complete. Please note: NRC does not permit mooring owners to sink unwanted moorings.
