Inspection and Maintenance

Swing mooring inspection, maintenance & certification

Our mooring Services

Moorings Northland is your trusted partner for mooring inspection, maintenance, and certification.

The Northern Regional Council (NRC) mandates that all swing moorings are inspected and maintained to safe working standards at least every three years.

We lift, inspect and service to NRC guidelines, then issue inspection certificates to meet licensing requirements, and satisfy insurers.

A comprehensive report with photos documenting the condition of your mooring and work completed, is provided with every service.

What is a mooring service?

Lift and Inspection

We lift the mooring out of the water and secure it on the deck of our barge. The crew clean the mooring rode, then photograph and record the condition, component measurements, and GPS location. This typically takes 30 minutes, but in some cases extra boat handling charges may apply.

Maintenance

If the crew identify components that fail NRC safety thresholds, these are replaced. Our barge is designed for efficiency, and our experienced professional crew fit only tested, certified components.
Barge and labour time to complete maintenance work is charged in 10 minute increments.

Reporting

Following the service, we provide a comprehensive report. This includes photographs detailing the inspection, and any maintenance work completed. Our objective is to give you complete transparency because we appreciate that moorings, for the most part, remain “invisible” to the mooring owner.

Compliance and Insurance

Moorings Northland holds “Approved Contractor” status with the NRC.
After your service you will be issued with an Inspection Certificate that will satisfy your mandatory mooring license obligations, and can be used to validate your boat insurance.

Early Inspection Reminders

Our systems aim to make mooring ownership easy. You will receive a reminder six and then again three months before your next inspection is due. Once a mooring service is booked we inform the NRC, this way your mooring license remains valid until the inspection, maintenance and certification is completed.

New Zealand’s best barge

Our barge is purpose built and is New Zealand’s best.  Its gantry lifting, spudding, GPS technology, and deck management systems mean our services are fast, efficient and safe.  We can “fix” our barge to the seabed, ensuring moorings are re-deployed with accuracy. Our barge is very manoeuvrable and is fitted with fenders. As a result, we can service your mooring with your vessel alongside.

Our pricing structure delivers the best value and reflects the time and commitment of resources to your mooring.  We balance value and quality, meaning you pay a reasonable price for the best possible workmanship, design, and industry standard components and techniques.  As a result, your mooring asset will last longer and be more economical for the long-term, and you’ll sleep soundly on a stormy night.
