Rent, buy or sell a mooring

The marketplace for swing mooring sales and rental in Northland

Renting a mooring

Renting moorings is becoming increasingly popular as there are periods when moorings in certain areas are popular to rent. Rents are subject to normal supply and demand pressures and can also be seasonal with rents rising in summer months.  Longer term rentals are sometimes discounted. Mooring rental is a great way to defray mooring ownership costs.

Things to keep in mind

Before buying or leasing a mooring be aware that the Northland Regional Council (NRC) has established minimum mooring design, boat and mooring license length restrictions:

  • 1 tonne mooring system is suitable for vessels up to 7m (23ft)
  • 2 tonne mooring system is suitable for vessels between 7m and 12m (40ft)
  • 4 tonne system is suitable for vessels between 12m and 18m (60ft)

Each mooring will have a maximum License Length.  Any boat must be on a suitably designed mooring and must not exceed the mooring’s permitted License Length.  There are various “blocks/anchor” weights in use, also, other mooring components are important for the effectiveness of moorings, so, if in doubt, check it out.
